The Mission Statement

The Veterans Memorial High School Library is a welcoming place for students, teachers, and parents to find books and resources that foster a life-long love of reading and learning. 

The Goals of the VMHS Library:

  • To provide a safe space for students to read, research, relax, and socialize.
  • To maintain a current collection of fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels that inspire students to read.
  • To instill a love of reading by providing diverse literature and providing a safe space to discuss the wide variety of topics found in the literature; the Read Woke Book Club.
  • To help students become effective and ethical users of information.
  • To support the curriculum through resources and collaboration.

Monday, Thursday &Friday 8:15 A.M. - 4:45 P.M.
Tuesday & Thursday 8:15 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.
(If no students are in the library by 5:00 P.M., the librarian reserves the right to head home early.)

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts in English Literature Master of Library & Information Science Certification in Secondary English (6-12) Certification in School Librarianship (EC-12)

Mrs. Pamela Thompson

Mrs. Thompson has been the librarian for Veterans Memorial since its inaugural year in 2016, and in October 2018, Mrs. Thompson accepted the position of Lead Librarian for JISD Library Services. Prior to coming to VMHS, Mrs. Thompson was the librarian at Dellview Elementary in NEISD for 9 years. She began her career as a high school teacher at Highlands High School in SAISD where she worked for 9 years. She taught all levels of English as well as a reading program for students reading below grade level, Xtreme Reading, offered through a grant by the University of Kansas. 

Mrs. Thompson graduated from Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a minor in Geography. After receiving her degree, she returned to SWT to earn her Secondary Teaching Certification, and in the Spring of 1998, she completed student teaching at Judson High School. She earned her Master of Library & Information Science degree from the University of North Texas in 2005.
