Dr. James Diaz

Welcome to Veterans Memorial High School! My name is Dr. James Díaz and I am excited to collaborate with families, staff, and our community for the success of our students. I was born and raised in San Antonio, and I believe in providing a high-quality, equitable education to all students. I am passionate about encouraging students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally to build the skills and knowledge to move into post-secondary education, the armed services, or contribute to the workforce. My focus is on enhancing teaching and learning across our campus, as well as continuing to strengthen our advanced academic programs.

I am a dedicated educator with 20+ years of leadership and teaching experience in K-12 public education and commercial education settings. Although my roots are in Social Studies, my teaching journey has spanned Middle School, High School, and University levels. My career has taken me from San Antonio to the New York City Department of Education, the School District of Philadelphia, and the Rio Grande Valley. I value the diverse perspectives our students bring and am dedicated to ensuring that our community values are reflected in our systems, accountability, and instructional practices.
